Poetry Month: Day 27 (by Wriley)

I chose this poem because it's one of the favorite poems I've ever written and it is about something that means a lot to me.

               RHINOS

That day the sun was rising
And the air crackled in my ear
From the nights before fire
The land was black and burnt
That day was also the day of the sickness

That was the day we saw
A horn poking out of the burnt grass
Then a rhino emerged
A dull gray body
With bright eyes to match

That was the day the rhino
Stampeded into our minds
Burning itself into our memories
And never leaving

  1. Your poem paints a picture in my mind. I can see the image of the dull gray rhino.
